I.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new virus strain spreading from
person-to-person in China and other countries, including Indonesia. In some
instances, cases outside of China have been associated with travelers from
China. As of 19 March 2020,
the Government of the Republic of Indonesia has reported 309 confirmed cases
and 25 deaths related to COVID-19. WHO is working with the Indonesian
Government to monitor the situation and prevent further spread of disease. Health experts are concerned
because little is known about this new virus and it has the potential to cause
severe illness ,pneumonia , severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure
and even death.
The virus that causes COVID-19 probably emerged from an
animal source, but is now spreading from person to person. The virus is thought
to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another
(within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected
person coughs or sneezes. It also may be possible that a person can get
COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then
touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Patients with COVID-19
have had mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of Fever, Cough, and
Difficulty Breathing. People who have been diagnosed with coronavirus have
reported symptoms that may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days
after exposure to the virus.
As with other respiratory illnesses, there are steps that
everyone can take daily to reduce the risk of getting sick or infecting others
with circulating viruses,so you must:
-wash
hands often with soap and water. If not available, use hand sanitizer.
-
avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
-
avoid contact with people who are sick.
-
stay home while you are sick and avoid close contact with others.
-
over your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
Currently,
there are no vaccines available to prevent coronavirus infections, so please
take care of yourself.
